Peru

Peru. The Inca Empire.

Peru is a land of ever dry desert to wet jungle, sea level to the 4th highest mountain in the western hemisphere, sweltering heat to bitter cold, and everything in between. There’s something for everyone here.

Getting around Peru is difficult because there is no direct route to anywhere. The mountains cause a trip that takes 25 minutes in a plane to be 10 hours in a bus. In order to really see everything and appreciate it, I would suggest 14+ days in country. If you do try to navigate Peru on your own, it would be best to use the busses and trains, or go on a guided tour to maximize your visit. Driving can be difficult and dangerous due to the mountainous terrain and winding roads. If you decide to drive yourself, definitely rent a GPS and have the GPS coordinates of where you are planning to go. Not all places have a real address, so you can always use the GPS position, which is the easiest way to get to, or close to, your destination.
