Norway. The land of tunnels, Teslas, trolls, ferries, unspoiled beauty, and homeland of the mighty Vikings.
Norway has over 900 road tunnels ranging from 50 m (164 ft) to the world’s longest road tunnel at 24.5 km (15.25 mi) long and Norway also has the world’s deepest tunnel, Eiksundtunnelen, passes under a fjord at 287 m (942 ft) below sea level. If you’re not passing through a tunnel, you’re spoiled with some of the most beautiful scenery. These tunnels must get some magic from the trolls of Norway, because you can enter a tunnel in the high mountains and exit the tunnel in lowland farms, rain to sun and back to rain, warm valley to icy glacier. Not sure what was going on, but it was always interesting to see what the light at the end of the tunnel would bring.
If you want to get anywhere in Norway, you will surely have to board one of the endless ferries connecting the 50,000+ islands that belong to Norway. You have no choice, the road just comes to an end at a ferry and continues on the other side of the water. Luckily, the ferry system is quite easy to use and runs smoothly… except when you’re the LAST CAR in line and the ONLY CAR that doesn’t get on the last ferry for the night. I mention Tesla, only because I’ve never seen so many Tesla vehicles in one place. Norway must have the highest percentage of Tesla vehicles per population, they are everywhere. Why, you might ask? Norway offers huge benefits for electric vehicles, such as no tolls, free ferry trips, parking garages have EV spots closest to the exits, stairs, and elevators, with free charging stations, a break on the tax, they can use the bus lanes in some places (although this is starting to fade because there are so many EVs). Well done, Norway.
